WHY ARE ST JOSEPH MEDICAL CENTER MARYLAND FCU AND FIRST FINANCIAL OF MARYLAND
FCU MERGING?
The Board of Directors has concluded that the proposed merger is desirable and in the best
interests of members because our shared resources will allow the combined credit union to
enhance product and service offerings and member convenience through better technology,
more product and loan offerings, and more locations/ATMs.
The combined credit union will also bring its strong social responsibility to the communities
served by St. Joseph Medical Center Maryland Federal Credit Union through volunteer service,
financial education and grants and donations to individuals, families, and the community.
Both organizations share a strong value-based culture that will create a better, more resourceful
organization that can effectively compete, develop new products and services, expand access
and ease of doing business and give back to our members and the communities we serve.
WHAT WILL THE MERGED CREDIT UNION BE KNOWN AS?
The resulting credit union will operate under the First Financial of Maryland Federal Credit
Union name and brand.
WHEN WILL THE MEMBER VOTING PERIOD TO APPROVE THE MERGER TAKE PLACE?
The Board of Directors of St. Joseph Medical Center Maryland Federal Credit Union have called
a special meeting of the members of this credit union at 7601 Osler Drive Towson, MD 21204 on
March 18, 2025, at 10:30am to vote on the merger. The meeting will be held in-person in the
Noppenberger A&B conference room.
Ballots and the special meeting notice will be mailed by CU Ballot to St. Joseph Medical Center
members on January 27, 2025. To be counted, your Ballot must be received by March 18, 2025
by 10:30am.
WHO IS ABLE TO VOTE ON THE MEMBER APPROVAL?
All individual (non-business) primary members over 18 who were in good standing as of
December 31, 2024, are eligible to vote. Members who join St Joseph Medical Center FCU
during the election period and joint owners are not eligible.
HOW CAN I RECEIVE A BALLOT?
All eligible members will receive a ballot in the mail.
You can visit https://sjmcfcu.cuballot.com/ to vote online. You will need your election ID or
Account number and last four digits of your Social Security Number to access the ballot.
You can also contact St. Joseph Medical Center FCU at 410-337-1319 for more information on how
to obtain a ballot.
WHAT BENEFITS WILL THE MERGER BRING TO MEMBERS?
Members will benefit from this new relationship by having access to a complete line of products
and services you don’t have available today. These products and services include:
WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR THE MERGER?
If the merger is approved, SJMC will begin the conversion process to First Financial of Maryland
Federal Credit Union. The actual conversion will occur in June when all SJMC members will have
access to their First Financial accounts and its services.
First Financial will begin sending communications to members regarding their new First
Financial accounts and what they can expect during the conversion. A new member welcome
letter will be sent to all members which will include their new First Financial account number
and instructions on how to access their accounts.
WILL MY ACCOUNT CONTINUE TO BE INSURED?
Yes, all First Financial accounts are federally insured by the NCUA.
WILL THE ST JOSEPH MEDICAL CENTER FCU BRANCH REMAIN OPEN?
Yes. The branch location will remain open.
WHO IS FIRST FINANCIAL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION?
First Financial was founded in 1953 by a group of public-school teachers. Over the last 70 years,
